The factory for the production of artistic ceramics ‘Rometti’ was founded in Umbertide (Perugia) in October 1927 by Settimio Rometti and his nephew Aspromonte (known as Riego), son of his brother Paolo, in partnership with R. Cerrini and his wife O. Fronduti.
The first name of the factory is ‘Ars Umbra’, the name with which the very first works produced between 1927 and 1928 are marked.
The artistic and technical direction is entrusted to Aspromonte and the production of the manufacture consists mainly of furnishings and crockery decorated in Art Nouveau style.
From 1928, the artistic direction of the factory passed to Aspromonte’s cousin, son of Settimio Stamura’s sister, Dante Baldelli, with the collaboration, from 1928 to 1930, of Corrado Cagli.
In the late 1920s, sculptor Mario Di Giacomo was asked to collaborate with the factory.
In those years the factory, whose brand is interchangeably ‘Ceramiche Rometti’ and ‘Ars Umbra’,
In the spring of 1930, the factory presents a plate with title ‘Autobiografia’ and signed by Dante Baldelli at the First Exhibition of Fine Arts in Perugia.
In these years, ‘Rometti’ made some ceramics in futurist style on designs by Giacomo Balla and Fortunato Depero.
In 1931, Rometti was awarded a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Nice and another one at the Fiera del Littorio in Bologna.
In 1932, the company was present at the Fiera dell’Artigianato in Florence and at the Fiera del Levante in Bari and in Umbertide it received a visit from Mussolini.
In 1933, ‘Rometti’ was invited to participate in the Milan Triennale where it obtained important awards.
