Maurits Verbist, Neerijse 1913 - Veltem-Beisem 1984. Post-expressionist painter, watercolourist and draughtsman of landscapes, seascapes, rural life, figures, nudes and still lifes. Educated at the Academies of Schaerbeek, Sint-joost-ten-Node, Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe and Ter Kameren. The people's life holds an important place in his oeuvre. Friends with E. Tytgat. Since 1950, he leads the vrije tekenatelier of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe and expands it with a graphics workshop in 1952. During the last years, he made numerous foreign trips, which strongly inspire him and his colour palette.
