Tintin T7 - L'Ile Noire - alternate edition - version annotated by Hergé - hc - (1943)

This album was annotated in 1965 on each page by Hergé himself, for the preparation of the completely reviewed edition of "L'Ile Noire" (the Black Island) that was published in 1966. Edition in black and white, two printed pages alternating with two blank pages. Twenty copies were printed and bound by editing house Casterman in November 1943 at the request of Hergé, who wanted to send them to European editors abroad, hoping for publication. Only 10 were delivered to Hergé's house. Most copies were destroyed, being used for reproduction in various newspapers and periodicals, or were simply lost. Of the original 10, only 3 copies survive, 74 years later .... This copy is one of those 3 known copies of L'Ile Noire with rear cover A22, that were kept in Hergé's personal archive instead of being sent out. Hergé used this copy to correct the texts himself, during the complete redesign of this story, that would be published in 1966. For instance, the famous scene were Tintin and Milou (Snowy) jump on a train, originally shows "Johnnie Walker whisky" on the side of the wagon. The name is crossed out in the working document and in the reworked version, this will become "Loch Lomond", the famous brand that Captain Haddock enjoys so much ... This volume is thus annotated on almost every page by Hergé (in red pencil, as used by Hergé in several other working documents, or in pencil for the sketches). Hergé's secretary Baudoin Van den Branden would notify on the pages the framing or text changes to be made. There are reference numbers written in most text balloons, probably referring to a list with corrected text or remarks, that would be used by the letterer. There are about 3 sketches in Hergé's pencil in the margins of the boxes. Each box is also recalibrated at the text level for the new edition by Baudoin Van Den Branden. Very nice exterior condition of the cover and rear cover. Very nice condition of the pages, complete, uncut. All pages are present. The red spine shows signs of wear and is slightly discoloured. Exceptional historical copy that makes us witnesses of the work of Hergé.
